Privacy
The short version: the calculators run in your browser, SunSums sets no cookies and has no tracking, and the only personal data it keeps is your email address if you sign up to the check-up.

Who is responsible
SunSums (sunsums.co.uk) is run by Tej, an individual in the UK, who is the controller of any personal data described here. Contact: [email protected].
The calculators
- The Savings calculator, the Tariff Finder and the Budget planner work entirely in your browser. What you type is not sent to SunSums or anyone else.
- If you upload your Octopus usage file to the Tariff Finder, it is read in your browser and never uploaded.
- Your browser remembers a few choices on your own device so the tools are quicker next time: the region you picked in the Tariff Finder, and the figures you entered in the Budget planner. Clear your browser's site data to remove them.
Cookies and tracking
SunSums sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Other services the pages use
- Hosting: the site is served by GitHub Pages. Like any web server, it receives your IP address to send you the page and may keep it briefly in its logs for security (see GitHub's privacy statement).
- Fonts: the pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads (see Google's privacy policy).
- Links to other sites: the Octopus referral link, Buy Me a Coffee and Payhip are separate sites with their own privacy policies. SunSums learns nothing about you when you follow them, apart from the referral credit Octopus reports if you join.
The monthly tariff check-up
- What is kept: your email address, the region you chose and the date you signed up.
- Why: to send you the check-up you asked for. The lawful basis is your consent, which you give by confirming the first email (double opt-in).
- Who holds it: Buttondown, the email service SunSums uses, processes it on SunSums' behalf under a data processing agreement. Buttondown is based in the United States; transfers rely on safeguards recognised under UK law.
- How long: until you unsubscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link; after that you get nothing more. Ask and your address is deleted completely.
- Your address is never sold, rented or shared with anyone else, and SunSums never uses it to send you anything except the check-up and important notices about it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data held about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, and withdraw consent at any time. Email [email protected]. If you're unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
SunSums is meant for adults paying household bills and doesn't knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. Anything that affects how your email address is used will be told to subscribers first.
